Tax Returns & Due Dates: Income Tax & Sales Tax Filing Deadlines
2 September 2025By Abdullah Safeer (LLB, DTL)
Understanding tax periods and due dates is the foundation of compliance, missing a single deadline can trigger penalties, surcharges and notices from FBR.
For income tax, your tax period is the full 12 months from 1st July to 30th June, this is the Tax Year your return covers.
Your income tax return filing deadline is 30th September every year, three months after the tax year ends to compile your income, calculate tax and submit.
There are smaller periodic filings, quarterly advance tax payments and withholding statements, but the main return is filed once a year before 30th September.
For sales tax, the tax period is one calendar month, your compliance cycle resets every 30 days, with three separate deadlines.
First, sales annexures by the 10th. Second, tax payment by the 15th. Third, complete sales tax return by the 18th of the following month. Missing any one is a separate violation.
